Observed chi Cyg at magn. 4.6 using comp. stars 44 (theta Lyr) and 47 (phi Cyg).
Naked eye observation done here in Essen, Belgium at 01 hrs 02 min. (local time) on August 6th.
Checked chi Cyg and the comp. stars used also with 7x 40 mm binoculars.
Chi is much brighter than the 47 = phi Cyg and comp. star 44 = theta Lyr is hugely much brighter.
Those 7x 40 mm binoculars have way too much aperture/light gathering power to make a nice clean observation of chi Cyg.
To the naked eye I found chi Cyg a tad brighter than the 47 comp. star.
Comp. star 44 was much easier.
The magn. 5.0 star (17 Cyg) very close (just to the west) to chi Cyg was also visible to the naked eye.
All comp. star magnitudes are Hipparcos photometric values.
Checked the B-V of the comp. stars too.
The 44 comp. star (theta Lyr) is a bit reddish (B-V 1.26) but OK to use as phi Cyg has a B-V of 0.97 (dark yellow)
so the difference in B-V of both comp. stars is quite similar/not too far out of range.
Will send my other observations later today in a complete report.
