Hayabusa2 will attempt to send a lander to the asteroid Ryugu

Launched by Japan’s space agency JAXA in December 2014, this spacecraft will try to place a small, boxy lander containing a camera and other instruments on the surface of the near-earth asteroid Ryugu. Later in 2018 and next year, it will attempt to collect samples from the asteroid before returning to Earth in 2020. In September, the busy spacecraft successfully landed two small rovers on Ryugu, and sent images to Earth from the asteroid's surface, which you can see here: https://nyti.ms/2DdCxIz
