Ahoj Tharos,
Welcome at the Astrotreff!
QuoteActual version of the skyquality.com was built within few days - initiated by some czech people, who ordered SQMs. We just thought that it could be useful to collect measurings and make them available to anybody.
I would like to thank you for your engagement. It is important to have a freely available data base which can be used for different projects and evaluations.
QuoteWe knew about the official Unihedron database, but we found it unusable due to unability to put in some additional information ie. limiting magnitude, Bortle, weather and so on. So, we decided to build our own site .
I agree. The American site is not suitable for scientific or semi-scientific usage. Your page has already this potential. I look forward to see its’ further
QuoteThe main goal of skyquality.com was to collect as much objective observings as possible. This means that every observing should ideally contain not only measured values, but also: personal limiting magnitude, Bortle, informations about weather, which SQM was used (we record type, model and also S/N) and another comments. In our opinions only observations that contain all these informations are objective and usefull for other observers.
Your input page
http://www.skyquality.com/vlozit-pozorovani
has a very high standard. It is necessary to aks for all data needed to exclude mistakes which may be the source of low data quality.
QuoteThe project appeared to be good and usefull and today, we intensively work on a bigger, international version. That version is going to contain many many times more features and it's user interface is going to be fully redesigned. In few points:
* basic browsing of the content of the database will be realized by an interactive map, which will also allow to filter measurings/locations (ie. by sea-level, average of measured values, numbers of observings etc.)
* users will have their own accounts, which will allow them to watch predefined regions, comments, to insert measuring comfortably etc.
* the project will be fully international with the ability to translate it into any language
And many many more... We have still a lot of work to do, but we decided to to it . The development will take a lot of time, but it seems to be real to launch some beta version after summer 2009.
Your ideas are great, we wish the project much success.
QuoteSo, I hope you'll like it and use it .
Our group will take part in sending SQM values. We also encourage other german amateurs to join the project. We give information about your data collection here in astrotreff and at the pages of the Herzberger Teleskoptreffen.
Best regards
