NASA launched its DART mission to crash into an asteroid

Didymos is a pair of near-Earth asteroids. The smaller of the pair, Dimorphos, orbits its larger partner as they travel around the sun. To understand the best way to deflect an Earth-bound asteroid that could damage life on this planet, NASA wants to see with its Double Asteroid Redirection Test mission whether it can engineer a collision with Dimorphos that will alter the small object’s orbit. After launch, the spacecraft will travel to the asteroids and make its crash attempt in September or October 2022. Read about the DART mission here: https://nyti.ms/3FI0lzx
