NASA may launch its DART mission to nudge an asteroid

Didymos is a pair of near-Earth asteroids. The smaller of the pair, nicknamed Didymoon, orbits its larger partner as they travel around the sun. To understand the best way to deflect an Earth-bound asteroid that could damage life on this planet, NASA wants to see with its Double Asteroid Redirect Test mission whether it can engineer a collision with Didymoon that will alter the small object’s orbit. After launch, the spacecraft will travel to the asteroids and make its crash attempt in September 2022. Read more about DART here: https://nyti.ms/2Kj1iY7
